Chan 2014 – so far, not so good

After two matches watching the Super Eagles team B, I am now even more convinced that my instincts before the championship may prove in the end to be right. I still cannot find one player in the team to join Keshi’s Super Eagles.
The football has not been great. The Eagles have not been outstanding and dominant. Although the team may still go on and do well, and even possibly win the championship, Keshi’s coaching prowess is being tested and his worried looks on the bench, particularly when the Eagles were losing against Mali, and when the Mozambicans were easily cutting through the unorganized Nigerian defenders, speaks volumes.
Meanwhile, I am counting the days to July already and worried about what is happening to several of Nigeria’s players in Europe that are likely to be in Keshi’s team to Brazil. Two of Nigeria’s forwards, Victor Moses and Shola Ameobi have been having minimal playing time in Liverpool and Newcastle respectively, and these are two of the forwards I believe Keshi is looking up to to lead his attack in Brazil in July. Nigeria’s most dependable defender, young Omeruo is also sidelined in Chelsea.
Well, so far, Chan has not been so good. But we are still keeping our fingers crossed, watching and hoping that somehow, something good may still come from it to justify why we have taken our eyes off the bigger challenge!
