President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday requested for the Senate confirmation of the nomination of Modibbo Hamman Tukur as the Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
The nomination, according to a statement by the Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina was in accordance with the provision of Section 5(1) of the NFIU Act 2018.
He said a letter dated January 7, 2019 has been written to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, seeking the confirmation of the nominee by the Upper Chamber.
Tukur who hails from Adamama State, is a holder of Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Business.
He is currently an Assistant Director in the NFIU, and has vast international experience in illegal assets recovery.
Recall that President Buhari had in July last year assented to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Bill.
NFIU is the Nigerian arm of the global Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs). With the assent, NFIU which was domiciled in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is now in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
