Buhari meets Katsina senior citizens

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met with Katsina State Senior Citizens Forum in Daura, his home town.

Buhari had earlier met with All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, among others.

The meeting held behind closed doors and no official statement was released the outcome.

Speaking with newsmen after leading the state’s senior citizens, Governor Aminu Masari said the forum was in Daura to commiserate with the president over the recent death of his family members.

He said the forum also reaffirmed their solidarity and support to the administration, adding that “the senior citizens and the opinion leaders were here to show solidarity with Mr President and identify with his hopes and aspirations and with his efforts at putting Nigeria in proper shape.”

When asked about the president’s stance on 2019, Masari said “we remain hopeful.”

However, sources at the meeting said former President Obasanjo’s ‘special statement’, 2019 elections, the ongoing voter registration exercise, were some of the issues raised during the closed door session.

The meeting, which lasted over an hour, had in attendance the Emir of Daura Umar Faruk and his Katsina counterpart Abdulmumini Kabir represented by the Galadiman Katsina and chairman of the forum retired Justice Mammam Nasir; former military administrators Abdulmumin Aminu, Ahmed Daku, and former Chief Justice of the state Sadiq Mahuta.

Others are businessman Dahiru Mangal, Musa Abdullahi, Ali Saulawa, Aliyu Sani Mohammed, Sen Abba Ali, Abidu Yazid.
