Brave passengers nab robbery suspect in Benue

The Police in Benue State on Friday paraded one robbery suspected who was apprehended by brave passengers after he allegedly dispossessed them of their valuables.

Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), for the Benue Command, Moses Joel Yamu, said, the suspect, Terngu Nabe, alongside two others now at large intercepted the passengers vehicle on Wednesday night  along Abua road in Buruku Local Government Area.

Yamu explained that the three robbers had successfully robbed the passengers when one of the victims summoned courage after suspecting that the guns were without bullets grabbed Nabe from behind and beckoned on his co-travellers to support him.

He said at that point the other two suspects fled into the bush while all the occupants of the vehicle who were robbed held onto Nabe until police arrived the scene.

The suspect however in an interview with Daily Trust confessed to have committed the crime and that it was his first time of venturing into robbery after turning down several invitation from his brother to join their gang.

Nabe, 30, narrated that on that fateful night, they were three of them who went to block the highway and intercepted the commercial vehicle which was travelling toward Gboko area of Benue state.

He said that his two other accomplices robbed the passengers of their money, handsets telephone as well as other valuable items but that it was when he joined them to remove cash from a particular passenger’s pocket that the victim held him from behind while he alerted his fellow travellers to their corner.

The suspect, dressed in military camouflage who claimed to be trading in rice as a middle man at various local markets in Buruku area and a father of five children, also told our correspondent in Makurdi that a gun without bullet was recovered from him by the police.
