Bilyamin Bello’s killing: Investigation on, wife detained – Police

The FCT Police Command has said investigation is on-going in the alleged murder of Bilyamin Muhammed Bello, son of a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Bello Haliru Mohammed, by his wife, Maryam Sanda.

In a phone interview with our correspondent, yesterday, the command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, also confirmed that the suspect is still in custody.

Asked if the suspect is in custody along with her eight-month-old daughter, Manzah said “You know we will not keep the suspect and the baby in our custody.”

A source close to the family who sought anonymity had told our reporter that the suspect had refused all efforts by family members to take the baby from her.

The source also said Maryam and Bilyamin had been dating for years; right from when she was an undergraduate at the University of Maiduguri where she studied English Language and graduated in 2010.

“Though Bilyamin ended up getting married to another lady. However, the relationship with Maryam continued and they got married after Bilyamin divorced his first wife less than a year after they married.

“Not long after the divorce, he married Maryam – about two years ago,” the source said.

The source said the incident leading to the death of Bilyamin was shocking because Maryam was a patient woman who was not quick to anger.

Daily Trust reports that Maryam, daughter of a former Executive Director of Aso Savings, Hajiya Maimuna Aliyu Sanda, had allegedly fought with the deceased late Saturday evening after seeing correspondences between him and another woman on his phone.

She allegedly stabbed the deceased severally in the chest and thigh leading to his death.
