Sunglasses, informally called shades are great form of protective eyewear designed primarily to prevent bright sunlight and high-energy visible light from damaging or discomforting the eyes.
Even though they serve as protection from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays for the yes, they are a great fashion accessory.
But most people wear these shades indoors which may be cool but probably best left for the outdoors.
An ophthalmologist, Elliot Levine said, there is definitely a fashion element to sunglasses that people look for, but there are health benefits to wearing sunglasses as well.
“The most important benefit of wearing sunglasses is that they protect your eyes from ultraviolet (UV) light. UV light can have harmful effects on the eyelid, cornea, lens and retina.”
He added that the beauty benefit of sunglasses is that they help protect delicate skin around the eyes from aging. “Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on our body and it’s more at risk for sunlight damage.”
