The Benue State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly killing a man while attempting to rape a woman at Ifho village of Tsav District in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the command, Moses Joel Yamu, told Daily Trust in Makurdi yesterday that the incident occurred on Friday night at the rural village of Guma.
Yamu said the report made available to the command indicated that some women on the night of November 10, were watching television at their home in Ifho village when some men suspected to be herders invaded them and attempted to rape one of them.
He added that a man, Apesuu Ahula, who came to their rescue from the neighbourhood was killed by the suspects.
The PPRO further said that the police went after the suspects who tried to escape on sighting them the following day but that the operatives were able to arrest three of them.
Yamu said the three suspects arrested, Ibrahim Muhammadu, Abubakar Ahmadu and Adamu Bature, are now in police custody at the command’s headquarters in Makurdi.
The Benue State Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Garus Gololo, said he was briefed by the Ardo of herders in Guma that three of their members were arrested in connection with the killing of a man.
Gololo said the arrest was made at a locality different from where the suspects were said to have committed the crime, maintaining that proper investigation should be carried out.
