The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) has sued the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, for allegedly defaming President Muhammadu Buhari and his family.
The organisation, in the suit filed at the FCT High Court, prayed for an order demanding Atiku and his party to pay N40 million damages for the alleged libellous claims that Buhari and members of his family owned substantial shares in 9mobile and Keystone Bank.
The plaintiff said Atiku, through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, claimed the first family acquired major shares in Keystone Bank with total assets of $1.916 billion as well as purchased about N3 billion worth of shares in the new Pakistani Islamic Bank.
The Director of Communication and Strategic Planning of BCO, Gidado Ibrahim, told the court in a witness statement on oath that Atiku and his media aide engaged in smeared campaign of calumny against the president and his family.
He said the statement caused to be published in the media by Atiku has greatly affected the reputation of President Buhari and his family in the eyes of the public.
