Bayelsa Queens win Nigeria women premier league

Bayelsa Queens Football Club of Yenagoa have emerged champions of the Nigeria Women Premier League for 2017/2018 season.

Restoration girls yesterday at Agege Stadium in Lagos defeated Nasarawa Amazons by 2-0 in the final of the Super 4 Play off.

This is coming 11 years after an elusive chase for the title by the club.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has hailed the club for emerging champions of the 2017/2018 season of the Nigeria Women Premier League.

SWAN in a statement by its chairman, Alambo Datonye and the secretary, George Ameli in Yenagoa yesterday, commended the Bayelsa State government led by Governor Seriake Dickson and the State Ministry of Sports Development under the leadership of Mr Perekiye Buruboyefe for relentlessly funding and supporting the club to achieve the feat.

The body described the victory as a huge tonic to football fans and the people of the state, while commending the technical crew and management of the club for their resilience and unparalleled commitment.
