Bayelsa guber: NYSC seeks security for corps members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, yesterday urged residents of Bayelsa State to provide maximum security for corps members that would serve as INEC ad hoc staff during the November 16 gubernatorial election in the state.

In a statement, NYSC spokesperson, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi,  said the DG made the plea yesterday in Yenagoa at a meeting attended by the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gubernatorial candidates and other stakeholders.

He said as national assets, corps members deserve maximum protection from all Nigerians, noting that they are non-partisan electoral umpires always ready to contribute their quota to national development.

The statement quoted the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, as saying that 32,000 policemen had been detailed for the election.

He appealed to all political gladiators in the state to abide by the electoral laws adding that no form of political violence would be tolerated.

“All election observers, journalists and civil society members must be properly accredited and we promise maximum protection for all law-abiding residents of the state”, he said.
