The Bauchi State chapter of United Progressives Party (UPP) has disclosed that, it will not field candidate in the forthcoming senatorial bye-election in Bauchi South Senatorial district on August 11th, 2018.
This was disclosed by the state chairman of the party, Musa Mato after its executive committee meeting in Bauchi Saturday.
He said that the party wanted to strategise for the 2019 elections adding that the party will field candidates as it had in the 2015 general elections when it fielded candidates in almost all elective positions including governorship.
It however noted that, it is considering supporting another suitable candidate from another party that are participating in the senatorial bye-election.
"The party is doing everything possible to strategise it’s plans ahead of the 2019 general elections. And because of this, UPP will not take part in the forthcoming Bauchi South Senatorial bye-election scheduled to hold on the11th of August 2018, instead the party will support a credible candidate from another party if there is any,"the party stated.
The party urges independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to be fair in their dealings with all political parties during and after the bye-election and subsequent elections which it stated that will be a yardstick for the 2019 general elections.
UPP also urges security agencies to provide adequate security and maintain their neutrality in discharging their responsibilities.
"Finally, I am calling on our teeming members and supporters across the state to remain law abiding citizens, continue with their lawful businesses, propagate the ideology of the party and ensure that every eligible member obtain his Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and keep it as their weapons during elections,"the party urged.
It could be recalled that parties including the ruling APC and opposition which include the PDP,NNPP,GPN, APP have already fielded their candidates for the bye-election.
