The Bauchi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC) has said that it’s mobile courts arrested and tried 178 traffic offenders across the state.
The Bauchi Command Head of Operations, Paul Gua disclosed this while speaking to journalists in his office Monday.
Five FRSC mobile courts were established at different locations in the state to prosecute and sanction traffic offenders.
The mobile courts were established at Toro, Darazo,Bara near Gombe, Alkaleri and Bauchi.
According to him,the arrests were made from the 20th of December 20th 2017 to 15th January 2018.
"The traffic offences include making of phone calls while driving, over speeding, overloading, using of wornout tyres amongst others.Out of the 178 traffic offenders,165 have been convicted by the state judicial commission while seven persons have been discharged and acquitted,"he said.
Gua informed that as part of an effort to create more awareness on its operations and observance of traffic rules,the FRSC in the state had conducted six rallies in motor parks, six radio programmes and one Television programme to enlighten the public.
The Sector Head of Operations said that the commission is working to achieve it strategic goals for the year 2018 which he said include; enhanced communication and social media technology, improvement on FRSC law enforcement and rescue services, enhanced professionalism, promotion of businesses and stakeholders cooperation.
