Bauchi first lady lunches free medical services

The First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammed, has launched a week long free medical services for women and children in all the 323 electoral wards of the state.

Speaking during the flag off of the scheme tagged ‘Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week,’ in Miri town, Aisha Muhammed, said over 1.4 million children under the age of five and 300,000 pregnant women were expected to receive a comprehensive package of free but high quality health and nutritional interventions.

“These interventions includes Vitamin A supplements, deworming tablets, screening malnutrition, birth registration and routine immunizations as well as promotion of other child protection services like hand washing among others,’’ she said.

She assured the people of the state that government was committed to their wellbeing, especially women and children, adding, “I want to use this opportunity to encourage pregnant women and all parents to cooperate fully with health workers by bringing forward their children during this very important exercise so that they can receive the full benefits of the interventions.”

In his remark, Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwan Muhammed, said the exercise was organized to deliver an integrated package of preventive services known to be highly cost effective for improving maternal and child health survival.
