All is quiet in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as the battle over who will be the governorship candidate of the ruling APC in the state has shifted to Abuja.
The combatants in the primary election are in desperate moves to get the nod of the national leadership of the party for their respective candidates.
Our correspondent gathered that immediately he was pronounced as the flag-bearer of the party by the Ibrahim Agbabiaka-led APC Electoral Committee, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu jetted to Abuja.
He was also to meet members of the APC Restoration Coalition who had moved to Abuja after boycotting the rescheduled governorship primary to get the ratification of the candidacy of Hope Uzodinma.
A member of Okorocha’s faction, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said it was only the NWC that would decide the fate of the party in the state.
He said, if not carefully handled, the decision of the NWC might cast a death knell for the party in the state.
“We all have our lists of candidates and we have now moved to Abuja where the next battle will be fought. All the factions are here,” the source said.
“We are all struggling to get the ear of the NWC. We have our list from the primary ordered by the NWC and they have their own from Ahmed Gulak. We are all waiting for the action of the national leadership of the party,” he said.
When our correspondent visited the APC secretariat, all was quiet; devoid of the crowd that usually thronged the office.
One of the security men at the office said, “Nobody is in the office. The battle is now in Abuja. We expect the hustling when they return and then the real campaigns will start.”
