The chairman of the Committee for Finding Lasting Solution to Armed Banditry and Cattle Rustling in Zamfara State, Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar, yesterday said over 500 persons kidnapped by bandits were freed without any ransom.
Addressing newsmen in Sokoto after paying a courtesy call on the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, he said: “It is just two months since the inauguration of this committee, but we were able to achieve the desired goal,” he said.
He said they were in Sokoto to seek blessing and advice from the sultan.
Abubakar said the committee would recommend an empowerment programme for the repentant bandits to discourage them from going back to this crime.
