The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, Australia, is seeking to collaborate with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in petroleum and energy research and related areas of academic activities.
The university’s vice president, External Relations, Fiona Docherty, who led a team on a courtesy visit to PTDF, said the institution wants to benefit from the fund’s international reputation as the leading agency of the Nigerian government for capacity building in the oil and gas industry.
According to a statement from the spokesman of the fund, Mr. Kalu Otisi Esq, Docherty said the transparency and integrity of PTDF’s management of its overseas scholarship scheme, manifests in the emergence of exceptional scholars some of whom recorded breakthroughs in their areas of study and research.
She outlined petroleum engineering and renewable energy as two of the possible areas of collaboration which, she said, could form the basis for a national energy strategy between the two countries.
The Executive Secretary, PTDF, Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau said the proposal for partnership was timely as the fund was reviewing its engagement with many universities.
He directed the Education and Training department of the fund to commence collaborative discussions with the Australian university.
