ASUU National President, Dr Nasir Isa, at a press conference in Akure, disputed allegations leveled against the union by the institution’s vice chancellor.
The ASUU President gave an 18-point dimension of the crisis at the AAUA comprising refusal to pay the three and half months’ outstanding salaries of ASUU members, banning of union’s vehicle from the university and disregard to the non-victimization clause in the resolutions reached for the suspension of the July-December 2013 strike action among others.
He therefore called on stakeholders to intervene before the issue gets out of hand, assuring, however that ASUU would seek all lawful means to fight its course.
“Adekunle Ajasin is a public university, not a private estate. ASUU is never associated with illegality and our activities are always open to public scrutiny,” he maintained.
Daily Trust observed that sequel to the fracas between ASUU and the management of the institution, lecturers of the university have boycotted academic activities.
However, the university’s authorities in a swift reaction denied all the allegations leveled against the VC, saying the accusations were strange to the institution.
The university’s Assistant Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr Victor Akinpelumi, said the VC had been doing all he could to give the university a world class status.
According to him, the results of the VC’s efforts are evident in the recent physical infrastructural development in the institution and the patronage and co-operation the university has attracted from both within and outside Nigeria.
