It does appear that the Tunisians are sold on the idea of a permanent revolution even when they realise that what they have got in their hands is not exactly working as they had expected. With what is going on now in Tunisia I am certain that there are many who secretly wish that the ‘dictator’ Ben Ali was restored so that they can enjoy the order and stability they were enjoying under his rule.
Like the Tunisians, the Egyptians also seem pre-occupied with a permanent struggle. Every day Tahrir Square is parked full of people canvassing one set of opinion or another. While they are engaged in this often deadly canvassing of the differences in their opinion, their economy is shrinking and many more people are thrown into the unemployment market.Garbage cannot be cleared. Peace is illusive. Violence has dissuaded tourists from visiting Egypt and giving the nation the billions of dollars it gets from that great revenue earner. Poverty, which was the original force that gave birth to their revolution, is deepening. I am sure also that there are some people who secretly wish that their caged Pharaoh Mubarak was restored to his throne because things were not this bad under his rule.
Since the ‘revolutionary’ genie inspired, instigated and sponsored by the Europeans and Americans was released in Iraq and a once proud and stable country was invaded and despoiled, other Arab countries were encouraged to believe that what happened in Iraq is also good for them. ‘Rebels’ were ‘manufactured’, mobilised, armed and supported with heavy propaganda to fight against Libya in the name of fighting the ‘dictator’ Muammar Gaddafi. Gaddafi was brutally killed and Libya destroyed.
Like Iraq before it, Libya has not known peace or stability; and it is doubtful if for a long time to come these countries will be able to regain their former pride or swagger. They have been terribly humbled, their people divided and set against one another. With the violence rife in Libya now, there are many who secretly wish that the Gaddafi era be brought back. Better to be alive and well and enjoy whatever little freedom that is available than trade it for a life that is brutish, nasty and short.
Seeing what happened in Iraq, Libya and others one would think that the Syrians will not fall easy prey to the propaganda about revolution or the so-called Arab Spring. They too are currently suffering from a triumph of hope over a more tolerable reality. Some ambitious elements allowed themselves to be goaded to take up arms against Bashar al Assad.Syria was once a stable and prosperous country but now sectarian violence has been actively encouraged to steadily destroy it.
In Syria, as is the case with other Arab nations that have been beaten by the bug of foreign assisted revolution, it is the Arabs who are using their own hands to ‘woundjure’ themselves,to use a delicious Nigerian English word coinage which expresses a particular form of stupidity in which a man consciously does what will harm him grievously. They are mercilessly wounding and injuring themselves to the sadistic glee of puppeteers who are pulling the strings from the corner. The Arab world is bleeding profusely every day. The Arab blood is being shed not by some outsiders but by themselves with guns supplied by mischievous outsiders.
See the obvious obscene glee with which the Saudis and the Qataris exhibit in the supplying of weapons and monies to rebels to fight the government of Bashar Assad. And no one in the Arab world appears to have the courage to point out to the Saudis and the Qataris that the people being killed daily in Syria are not outsiders but fellow Arab brothers and sisters. They think Assad belongs to a different sect from theirs so he must be chased out of power. The Arabs are worshipping one Allah. The issue in dispute is about the Messenger. How is it so fundamental that the one who has a different opinion on this issue must be exterminated from the face of the earth when that same Allah holds all life as sacred?
If God wanted he would have made all of us to think alike but He allowed us the room to think differently and to worship him according to our own understanding. In the face of the turmoil in the Arab world, no one seems capable of asking any sensible question. What really is the benefit of what is going on? The Arabs have been encouraged to believe that they are fighting wicked dictators in order to usher in an era of democracy, freedom and justice. Bring about such a system is the desire of many nations. Revolution is supposed to bring improvement in the lives of people. What improvements or promises of it are they to justify the insistence on change through the kind of violence we have been watching with horror in the lands of the Arabs?
If the form of government or the particular personality at the helm of affairs is the problem why has there been no peace and progress in Iraq, Libya, Tunisia and Egypt since the ‘wicked’ dictators have either been chased out of town or brutally murdered?
It does appear that the Arabs have not realised that they have been sold a dummy by a mischievous and vicious people who are intent on destroying their countries by setting the people against their leadership and setting the people against each other by encouraging one sect against another. The sectarian violence that has set one group against another in Syria is the most mischievous of all.
Is there anybody in the Arab world wondering what exactly the people are benefitting from this so-called revolution apart from a harvest of needless deaths and the deepening of communal hatred? What is the benefit of a revolution that is not in any way pointing the way to better economies, more justice and more fairness and all you have are a harvest of deaths and destruction? Has anyone bothered to ask who the true beneficiaries of the Arab Spring are?
It is certainly not the Arab youth who is outraged by his joblessness; it is not the old men and women who are refugees in other places because of the violence in their home countries; and it is not Arab countries which get weakened every day because monies for development are used for guns with which people who should develop the countries are killed. The real beneficiaries are people somewhere else.
