APC to Enugu people: Keep away from ‘fake APC’ rally

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State Chapter has advised all good people of Enugu State, particularly supporters of the party to distance themselves from the “so-called planned APC Mega Rally being organized by some “suspended key officials of the party in the state,” as it was an avenue to cause unrest in the state.

Daily Trust recalls that recently some posters purportedly emanating from the Enugu State chapter of APC, have publicized the rally tagged “APC Mega Rally” scheduled to hold at Awgu on January 21, 2018.

But at a press briefing in Enugu today, Thursday, the state chairman of the party, Dr Ben Nwoye said that the suspended former officials of the party in the state lacked the legitimate right to organize such rally scheduled for January 21, 2018 in the name of APC as it would amount to illegality and an affront on the party leadership.

Nwoye said the quartet of A.C. Ude, Louis Okoro, Lolo Queen Nwankwo and Juliet Ibekaku, who were being linked with the mega-rally were on suspension  which was approved by national secretariate.

He called on members of the public, particularly the security agencies, to beware of the antics of the quartet, who are being used as agents to destabilize APC, now that the timetable for the 2019 elections has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nwoye said: “We are calling on the Police, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and others, to act quickly to forestall any breach of peace in Enugu State, as a result of the actions of these elements.”

He said that no faction exists in Enugu State APC, pointing out that commission of criminal act does not amount to factionalisation of a party.

Nwoye said that all those behind the purported rally are still serving their period of suspension which was officially certified or approved by the national secretariat of APC in Abuja. “The national secretariat wrote a letter to that effect approving their suspension. So such persons have no right to organize any meeting or rally using the name of APC,” said Nwoye, who quickly added that “For now, there’s no division in Enugu APC and people should not try to create one.”

He appealed to the security agents in the state to quickly arrest the “dissident groups coordinating the so-called mega rally scheduled to hold at Awgu as it was a step towards anarchy in the state.”

He claimed that the party will win Enugu State in next year’s governorship poll, stressing that the caliber of people joining the party from other political parties, especially, “those dumping PDP to join APC is a pointer to the victory of APC in 2019,” adding that the former state secretary of the PDP Barrister Steve Oruruo  had formerly joined APC while “other big wigs in the state that have indicated interest in joining APC.”
