The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said, yesterday, that consensus will only apply when no other aspirants signified interest through the purchase of nomination forms for any position in question.
The APC acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena, said since the party’s attention had been drawn to announcements of consensus candidates for elective positions in some states, it was pertinent to make some clarifications to enlighten party faithful on the procedure for nominating candidates.
“While consensus is provided for by the party’s constitution, the option is conditional.
“Consensus does not foreclose direct or indirect primaries for all elective positions as contained in the resolution of the 6th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC),” Nabena said.
Daily Trust reports that some states such as Zamfara, Yobe, Ogun and Imo had announced names of their gubernatorial candidates even as some aspirants had gone ahead to buy their forms.
