The youth wing of the South-south Chiefs and Elders Council has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for sustaining amnesty initiative and other developmental that have retain peace in the Niger Delta.
President of the council Comrade Odhomi Christopher who briefed newsmen at the end of a meeting of the council on Monday in Abuja said several projects, programs and policies executed or initiated in the region are clear indicators that Mr President meant well for the region and all Nigerians.
Christopher however urged the President Buhari to reconsider the recently sacked Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme Retired Brig-Gen Paul Boroh, for higher national assignment due to his sterling performance especially in mainlining peace in the region.
“The records bear clear testimonies of how Brig-Gen Paul Boroh (rtd) efficiently managed the ex-militants and redirected their energies to innovative ventures which contributed meaningfully to the productivity of the region and the expansion of our economic frontiers. The secret behind the success of the Presidential Amnesty Program under the watch of Boroh were not farfetched as could be understood from his astute credentials as a peace builder of international peace, a fine military officer and grass root Niger Deltan who understands the people and terrain of the region.
“Despite his military background Brig-Gen Paul Boroh (rtd) did not resort to the use of force in tackling the Niger Delta challenges but concentrated on redirecting the energies of the youths to meaningful ventures as can be seen in the majority of the youths trained under the watchful eyes of Boroh now contributing to food security of the region. Several others have been trained in manufacturing, automobile and other areas of endeavours,” he said.
He therefore urged President Buhari who he said discovered the potential of Boroh for the region and which yielded expected results to rather consider him for higher regional or national responsibilities so that his experiences would not be lost.
