The winner of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for Ogbadibo state constituency, Peter Enemari, Saturday dismissed claims from his female opponent, that the exercise was characterised with lots of irregularities.
Daily Trust reports that the PDP National Assembly/States House of Assembly election for the Benue south district held at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi after the exercise shifted from its initial venue, Otukpo following alleged tension build-up in the area by suspected thugs to disrupt the process.
Enemari who responded to allegation bordering on irregularities by Barr. Aida-Nath Oguche, said the exercise was the freest he had witnessed as all the federal and legislative elections of the district were conducted simultaneously.
“It’s a false allegation that the exercise was marred with irregularities. There was no harassment at all. Even Ogwuche congratulated me right there at the field at the end of the exercise when I was declared winner. So I wondered why she turned around to claim that the election was marred with irregularities,” he said.
The total votes casted at the poll, stood at136 votes with, Enemari polling the highest votes of 79 and Ogwuche scored 52 votes while both of them had four and one votes respectively as invalid.
Ogwuche, a female aspirant however told our correspondent in Makurdi that the entire electioneering process, most especially, the conduct of the primaries was marred with irregularities, intimidation and assault.
“I went through a lot. I was harassed. My supporters were threatened. I was beaten to an extent that my lips were swollen and I had a red eye. I was whisked away from the scene to the police where I made formal reports. The police later took me to the hospital,” Ogwuche narrated.
