Al-Makura sets up panel to probe Sen Adamu

The faceoff between Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State and former Governor Abdullahi Adamu, yesterday, took another twist following the decision of Al-Makura to set up a probe panel to investigate some projects executed during Adamu’s tenure as governor.

Al-Makura, who disclosed this yesterday at the government house in Lafia, during the swearing-in of three new permanent secretaries and three special advisers, said the committee which would be inaugurated soon, was meant to probe what Senator Adamu did while he was governor.

A crack between the two politicians came to the fore at the weekend, when Senator Adamu accused Al-Makura of trying to take his senatorial seat in favour of a serving commissioner in Nasarawa State.

Daily Trust gathered that the committee was to review concessions sealed during the tenure of Senator Adamu, which saw all the Nasarawa State Government owned hotels and other related facilities going to the hands of some investors.

The Committee was also mandated to review and investigate the circumstances that led to the alleged failure of the Farin Ruwa Independent Hydro-Power Plant Project, as well as the Zimbabwean Farmers Project.

He said the committee would after its work advise his government on what next to do.

According Al-Makura, Nasarawa state belonged to all its citizens; and would not be left in the hand of  “manipulators, who if nothing is in their favour, they would do anything not minding the negative outcome just to be on top.”

Al-Makura said: “I want to tell you today that I am the party leader in the state and I have a right to my choice; anyone aspiring to succeed me should know that the era of godfathers is gone,” he said.

In his reaction, Senator Adamu described the probe as a diversionary tactics, saying their eyes would remain on the ball.

Adamu in a phone interview last night, traced the genesis of his disagreement with the governor to fight over the APC governorship ticket in the state.

“I left government getting to 12 years; all that is happening now is just a diversionary tactics… The issue is  that he (Al-Makura) is trying to force a candidate on the APC  in the state and  I did not agree with him on that;  I advised him on it accordingly. He saw my not agreeing with him as confrontation and that’s why he is now shadow fighting.
