Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has donated equipments worth millions of naira for the take-off of a bread bakery, agric farm and other projects that will engage the youth corps members posted to the state, promising also to employ and retain some of them after service.
The governor announced the donation during a visit of some members of the NYSC governing board to his house led by the Vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Joseph Eberendu
He said the beauty of the youth service is for members to be able to stay in the state where they serve adding that, that is why the state is investing in entrepreneurship.
He said with this development, they will produce the food they will eat at the orientation camp and learn to fry garri and some other things.
The governor also promised to fence the NYSC orientation camp at Ikare Akoko for the protection of the corp members, some of whom were said to have kicked against their posting to the location due to lack of fencing and proper security.
However, he said the federal government should not leave the job to the states alone because it is its responsibility.
Earlier the state coordinator, Mrs Grace Akpabio had expressed appreciation to the state government for the renovation and upgrading of about fifteen hostels presently going on at the camp.
She said the state government has really assisted in encouraging a lot of the members through supports.
Also speaking, the team leader, Professor Eberendu said they want the corps members to be job creators and not job seekers, reason why they want to also encourage the NYSC acquisition programme.
He stressed that with the support of the state government, the corps members will be engaged in sustainable activities, that will jack up programs from three time in a year to a place of work engagement where farming and others would be taking place.
