The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, and the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will tomorrow unveil a 149-bed maternal and child centre (MCC) located inside the Alimosho General Hospital in Lagos, the State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has disclosed.

Abayomi explained yesterday during an inspection tour of the facility that the centre was built and donated to the Lagos State government by the federal government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The three-floor facility has two operating theatres, recovery rooms, sterilization room, delivery room, consultation rooms, private and general wards, scanning room, side laboratory rooms, reception area, a lounge, a nurses’ room and station, doctors’ call rooms, a scrub room and a board room.

The Commissioner said, “Inside the centre are ultra-modern equipment that will aid the prompt delivery of maternal and child care services. These include monitors with EC02, a suction machine double jar, ultra scan machines, an oxygen generating machine, a vacuum extractor delivery set, an anaesthetic machine and a diathermy machine.

“Others are an emergency cart with defibrillator, baby incubators, photo therapy lamps, paediatric ventilators, multi-parameter monitors for mothers and babies, a crash cart, a theatre monitor, defibrillators and a foetal doppler.”

Lauding the federal government’s gesture in donating the facility, Abayomi expressed his optimism that the MCC would have an impact on the efforts of the state government in promoting the health of mothers and children, reducing maternal and child mortality and improving the state’s health indices.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Titilayo Goncalves, said the state government had engaged the services of clinical facility managers, through the office of the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency, to maintain the facility.

According to Goncalves, the facility would complement the existing maternal and child centre as a secondary referral centre to the primary healthcare centres and private hospitals in the area.
