Africa Day: ‘Some African countries still under colonial rule’

He stated this in Abuja at the occasion making the 51st anniversary of the formation of the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU) and 12 years of its transformation to African Union (AU) last Friday.
The envoy said that the AU was committed to completing the decolonization process in Africa including protecting the right of the Chagos Archipelago, the Comorian Island of Mayotte and also the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.
He also said that the African Heads of States committed themselves to the continent’s political, social and economic integration agenda by speeding up the process of attaining the objectives of the African Economic Community.
Besides, he also said they took steps towards the building of a united and integrated Africa through various steps.
Speaking on agenda of the AU on social and economic development, the Dean said that the Heads of States dedicated to place the African people at the centre of their endeavours to eradicate poverty.
On peace and security, he said they expressed determination to achieve the goal of a conflict-free Africa, to make peace a reality and to rid the continent of all conflicts.
