Achievers University produces 22 First Class graduates, holds convocation Saturday

* School to honour Tambuwal, Dogara, Bishop Kukah

Twenty two students who came out with First Class honours degree at the Achievers University Owo, Ondo state will be honoured at the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies of the university holding this Saturday.

Briefing journalists in Owo, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Tunji Ibiyemi, said no fewer than 400 students will be graduating on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

He said the ceremony covers the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic sessions.

Giving a breakdown of the class of degrees, he said 22 finished in the First Class division, just as 217 finished with Second Class Upper, 130 Second Class Lower, while the remaining 31 passed out with Third Class.

According to him, the first set of postgraduate students, totalling 48 will be presented for the award of Master of Science degrees in Accounting, Business Administration and Computer Science.

Professor Ibiyemi added that four illustrious Nigerians will be conferred with Achievers University honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their tremendous contributions to the development of the nation in their different areas of endeavour.

According to him, they are: Former Speaker of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; the Executive Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Hassan Matthew Kukah and Mrs. Olusola Momoh, the Vice Chairman, Channels Media Group.

He said a number of projects which include the new ultra-modern 810 bed space hostel accommodation for female students have been built in line with the school’s physical infrastructure development drive.

Prof. Ibiyemi added that the institution has formally established academic linkage and collaboration with two foreign universities, USA and Kenya for exchange of students and staff and research collaboration.

“Our MoU with the university in USA includes 50% fee rebate for any graduate of Achievers University who wants to do their postgraduate programme in that university in USA.” he said.
