Abuja deaf association receives bus, cash donation

Minister of State, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, at the event, said the administration was not unaware of some of the challenges faced by members of the association and that the donation was to help ease the day to day running of their activities.
She expressed the readiness of the FCT Administration through the Social development Secretariat to work in partnership with the association in realizing its objectives of providing better livelihood for its members in the FCT.
“This demonstrates our commitment in supporting everybody in the territory and more especially those who need extra help and assistance to enable them realize their potentials,” the minister said.
She stressed the need for the association to mobilize its members to embrace government empowerment initiatives and avoid engaging in illicit activities such as street begging which could expose them to danger.
The administration, she added, has provided slots for the physically challenged in employment of its staff.
In her remarks earlier, the Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Mrs. Blessing Onuh, commended members of the association, whom she noted have been very organized and orderly.  The Secretariat, she added, has been responsive to the yearnings of the members by providing various forms of financial assistance to them.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Mr. Timothy Timat, thanked the minister for the donation, which he noted, will go a long way in enhancing the smooth running of their activities.
