A former University Lecturer, Kabiru was editor – Daily Triumph, Today Newspaper and Citizen Magazine and, was Southern African Correspondent of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). He has also written for Newswatch and Daily Times. He holds B.Sc/MSc Political Economy from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and University of Toronto, Canada. Kabiru was Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief for many years and is now the Chairman of the board of Media Trust Ltd.


Chief Executive Officer / Editor-In-Chief 

Born on the 13th of May 1964 at Kayauki in Katsina state, he attended primary schools at Ketare and Kankara both in Katsina state before gaining admission to Rimi College Kaduna in 1976. Upon completion of his studies, he attended the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria before proceeding to Bayero University Kano where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1986. Mannir returned to the same university for graduate studies and completed an M.A degree in English Literature in 1990.

He had his first experience in the media with the defunct Citizen Magazine in Lagos, first as special project staff, and later as a reporter between 1992 and 1993. He also worked on freelance basis with the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1994. Between August 1997 and February 2000, Mannir worked for the BBC World service at its Bush House headquaters in London before relocating back to Nigeria where he set up the Abuja Bureau of the African service.

He assumed duty as Media Trust’s Editor-in Chief in 2007.

On January 1, 2016, he was appointed the new Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief  of the company.



Associate Director, Editorial / Deputy Editor-in-Chief





He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and an indigene of Gombe State. A graduate of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and a holder of a Masters degree in Electronics Engineering from the same university, Mal. Garba Aliyu worked as a lecturer in the afore-mentioned university from 1995 to 1999 and with NITEL from 1999 till 2008 as a senior manager in charge of internet services at Kaduna point of presence before joining Media Trust Limited.

He has attended several IT trainings locally and abroad. He loves travelling and has basket ball for hobby.


General Manager, Business and Strategy

Ahmed is the General Manager, Business and Strategy of Daily Trust. He brings about 20 years’ experience in Journalism and Corporate Communications to his current role in the company. He oversees the Business Department, which is responsible for sourcing advertisements, promoting sales, commercial printing, events & conferences, brand marketing, as well as research. He also provides support to the CEO/Editor-in-Chief in developing and launching initiatives geared towards opening new marketing opportunities for Media Trust Limited, the parent company of Daily Trust.

Shekarau, who recently rejoined Media Trust from Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), reached the zenith of his career in journalism in 2005 when he was appointed pioneer Editor, Sunday Trust (now Daily Trust on Sunday). He also had stints in the corporate communications departments of Unity Bank Plc and defunct Oceanic Bank Plc.

Shekarau, who had a greater part of his working career in the media industry, was at different times Group Business Editor, Daily Trust and Weekly Trust; Group Political Editor, Daily Trust and Weekly Trust; and also Business Editor, Daily Trust. Before then, he had served as an Intern Reporter with The Nigerian Standard, Jos in 1996. He later had his mandatory National Youth Service in the Press and Publications Unit of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information and Culture. His stints at The Nigerian Standard, and later at the Press Unit of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information apparently swayed him to delve into journalism practice and thus, his decision to join the Weekly Trust as a Freelance Reporter in 1999.

Shekarau obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Media Arts at the University of Abuja. He has attended numerous professional courses in Journalism and Corporate Communications, and is a member of various professional bodies, including the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), where he was Vice President (North) from 2012 to 2014; the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON); and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).


Acting Managing Editor

Nasir Imam started his journalism career as a freelance reporter in with Media Trust Ltd in 1999 and was later employed as a Reporter in 2001. In his almost twenty years work experience in the company, he was Reporter, Senior Reporter, and Assistant News Editor. He was the pioneer Property Editor of Media Trust and rose to become the Ag. Managing Editor.

He is a 1983 graduate of Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management. He had worked with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), in Lagos as a Principal Estate Surveyor before joining the Media Trust.


 Editor, Daily Trust

Nasiru L. Abubakar studied Mass Communication at the Kaduna Polytechnic and Bayero University, Kano.

He started his journalism practice as a stringer with Weekly Trust (now Daily Trust on Saturday) in the year 2000, before joining the company as a full-time reporter in 2004.

He has served in various capacities, including Deputy News Editor, Acting Editor of Daily Trust on Saturday and Deputy Editor of Daily Trust. He was appointed Editor in November 2014.

In 2016, he emerged as Editor of the Year by the Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA). The same year Daily Trust was also recognised as Newspaper of the Year by the same body.

A member of several professional and social organisations, including World Editors Forum (WEF) and the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Abubakar has attended various journalism training both within and outside Nigeria.
