AAG qualifiers: Nimrod charges volleyball team to beat Ivory Coast

The president of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod has charged the Nigeria men’s senior volleyball team to go all out for victory today in their second match of the 2019 All Africa Games qualifiers against host Ivory Coast.

The Nigerian team inspired by their three foreign based players, Arinze Nwachukwu (Fernabache of Turkey), Samuel Ogwuche (Asaria of Libya) and Uchenna Ofoha (CVM of Germany) had beaten Niger Republic 3-0 ((25-20, 25-18, 25-20) in their opening match of the qualifiers on Saturday.

At the end of the tournament, the first two teams will qualify for the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco later this year.

In a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, Nimrod commended the players for the victory over Niger Republic but urged them not to rest on their oars.

He said the team should instead build on that convincing opening day win to overcome the host country in their second group match.

According to him, victory over Cote d’Ivoire will take Nigeria closer to their dream of not only qualifying for the All Africa Games but coming tops as well.

“I am very happy with the display put up by the team in their first match against Niger Republic. I commend the players and urge them to go for victory over Ivory Coast.

“I know it is not going to be easy but I have absolute confidence in my players. They are young boys who are hungry for result.

“Before they left for Abidjan, I told them to bring him the All Africa Games ticket and the first position. I believe they will achieve both targets,” said Nimrod.

Nigeria’s victory over Niger Republic is their first since the men’s senior national team was disbanded two years ago.
