The National Stakeholders Committee on Prison Reform and Decongestion has secured the release of 71 prison inmates in Sokoto State.
Speaking yesterday during the committee’s visit to Sokoto Central Prison, its chairman, Justice Ishaq Bello, advised the freed inmates to shun crimes and be responsible citizens. He stressed the need to address factors contributing to the congestion of prisons and delay in dispensation of justice.
The chairman said in the course of carrying out its assignments in states of the federation , it noted some irregularities in the dispensation of justice.
According to him deliberate programmes should be put in place to remove the anomalies.
This, he added, would eliminate certain injustices in the system.
