6 killed, 25 injured in multiple accidents

Members of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ rescue team attend to a victim at an accident scene along the Abuja-Lokoja highway at the weekend

Six persons lost their lives while 25 passengers sustained injuries in separate accidents on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the first accident happened last Thursday night at Mani village, on the highway which left three persons dead and 13 others injured.

He said a Toyota Hiace bus and Daf trailer, both without registration numbers, collided as the truck swelved to one side as it was tried to avoid a pothole.

He said the 13 injured victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital, while the corpses were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

He added that three other persons also lost their lives while 12 sustained injuries in the second accident which occurred on Saturday night at Chikara village.

City News gathered that the accident happened around 10:15pm when the driver of a Toyota bus with registration number RGN 690 XA ran into a pothole, lost control and then crashed into a ditch, leaving three persons dead.

He said the three corpses were deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue, while the injured were taken to the same hospital for treatment.

When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the two accidents.

He attributed all the crashes to loss of control and speed limit violation, saying the corpses were taken to Abaji General Hospital morgue by his men.
