Some actresses that grew up on the screen, and continue to make their marks in the Nollywood industry even in adulthood. This week, Weekend Magazine takes a look at a few of Nollywood’s child stars that grew up to become sensations.

 

Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi
FAR shot to fame in 1996, although she had been acting right from the age of eight in school productions, and watching her aunt, Teni Aofiyebi on TV. Starring alongside big shots in the game including Joke Silva and RMD, Funlola has achieved a lot of success since she began as a child.

 

Genevieve Nnaji
Starting out at the age eight in the then popular TV show ‘Ripples,’ Genevieve’s career on the big screen came to be after starring in the movie ‘Most Wanted’ in 1998. Since then, she has become a force to be reckoned with in the industry, moving from acting, into producing and now, directing, with her successful directorial debut, ‘Lionheart.’

 

Sharon Ezeamaka

At the age of five, Sharon had already become a Nollywood star in the movie, ‘Narrow Escape,’ alongside Pete Edochie. She then starred in the 2000 movie ‘Dear Mother’, winning her the award for Best Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. She recently starred in the hit MTV show ‘Shuga,’ as Princess and also in the comedy show, ‘The Johnsons.’

 

Nneka Adams

Nneka started out as an actress at the age of 17 and has since become one of the fiercest faces in Nollywood. She has featured in a number of Nollywood productions such as ‘Last Flight to Abuja,’ ‘If You Were Mine’ and ‘The Devil In Between.’

 

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Her first acting role was in the 1995 movie, ‘Venom on Justice’ when Omotola was 17-years-old. She starred shortly after in another 1995 movie, ‘Mortal Inheritance,’ and has continued clinching lead roles in the biggest movies in the industry ever since.
