Nigerian celebrities have been making an impression on a global scale, with some appearing on Grammy nominated albums, the most prestigious award in music. Weekend Magazine takes a look at those featured on such works.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Chimamanda is arguably one of the most celebrated and recognized authors of this generation. She appeared on Beyoncé’s self titled album back in 2013, on the track ‘Flawless.’ About a year later, the album was nominated for the Album of the Year.
In 2018, Timaya also made it to Grammy Awards list when his work with reggae artiste Morgan Heritage on ‘Avrakedabra’ earned him a nomination for Best Reggae album at the 60th edition of the awards.
Appearing on Drake’s hit track One Dance sent Wizkid onto global superstardom. The song had remained the number one hit across several countries after its release. The album ‘Views’, on which Wizkid was featured on, also got nominated for the Album of the Year category in 2017.
The track that shot her to fame was also the one that got her a Grammy nomination. Kah-Lo’s work onBritish DJRiton’s‘Rinse and Repeat,’ was nominated for the Best Dance Recording.
The ‘Gbona’ crooner who’s slated to perform at this year’s edition of Coachella, also nabbed a Grammy nomination for his appearance on the track, ‘Sunshine Riptides’, of rock band Fall Out Boy’s album ‘Mania.’
