Over 450 professionals and amateur golfers from across the country are expected to participate in this year’s Plateau State Governor’s golf tournament to be staged at the Lamingo Golf Club in Jos from the 10th-15th of December 2019.
Speaking at the press conference heralding the competition, the Vice Captain of the club, Silas Vem, said Governor Simon Lalong will be playing at the tournament
He also said the annual tournament is one of the biggest golf championships in the country.
“This year’s tournament is going to be much better than that of 2018 because each year we recorded improvements in so many ways.
“There is significant improvement on our pitch this time and the greens are looking very lovely. The tournament is going to start on the 10th of December and end 15th December.
“On the 9th December will be the arrival of professionals proper because the tournament is a pro-am tournament. Which means professionals will play and amateurs too will play so is open to all categories across the country.
“Friday the 13th December will be the arrival of the amateurs. Usually there are more of the amateurs than the professionals, so we are expecting more than 350 amateurs that will play.
“By Saturday 14th December will be the tee-off for the amateurs category, and the Governor will be officially here by 10am to perform the tee-off and also play at the amateurs category not for money but for his love of golf.
Vem also said on the 15th December, the amateurs category will round up their game and winners will emerge, while prizes will be given to winners at the end of the tournament
