The 3rd edition of Governor Seriake Dickson National Wrestling Classic Bayelsa 2019 commenced yesterday at the multipurpose indoor sports hall of the Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa.
Over 300 wrestlers from 32 states of the federation are currently gunning for honours during the competition which will last from June 25 to June 30, 2019.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, President, Nigerian Wrestling Federation, Dr Daniel Igali, told sports writers that the completion will be used to select wrestlers who will represent Nigeria during the 12th edition of the All-African games in Morocco later in the year.

According to him, Nigerian wrestlers to be looked out for during the competition, includes; (120kg) Sinivie Boltic, First time Africa champion, (57kg) Adekuoroye Odunayo, 5 time Africa champion, two time commonwealth & World silver medalist, Soso Tamarau, three time Africa champion, (68kg) Oborodudu Blessing, an eight time Africa champion and commonwealth champion.
Others include; Melvin Bibo, two time Africa champion, Adeniyi Aminat, 4 time Africa Champion, 2 time Commonwealth champion, John Emmanuel, 3 time Africa champion, Nwoye Ifeoma, 2 time Africa champion, (48kg) Genesis Mercy, 2 time Africa champion, and Amas Daniel, 5 time Africa champion.
Igali also said the championship will feature events in cadet wrestling, Freestyle, Greco Roma, Senior male and female wrestling.
