The Presiding Judge, Mr. Ahmed Ado, sentenced the convicts, after they pleaded guilty to stealing 40 bags of cement, valued at N85,000.
Ado sentenced each of the convicts to one month in prison for the offence of joint act and seven months for the offence of theft. He, however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N10,000 each.
The judge said the sentence was meant to serve as deterrent to youths who might want to engage in similar acts.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Friday Idi, told the court that one Fide Abyi of the same address filed a report against the convicts at the Gwarimpa Police Station on September 30. He said that during police investigation, the convicts confessed to have committed the crime.
Idi said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
