A witness said the accident happened around 2:13 am when a Peugoet J5 bus with registration number XC 845 JGW, loaded with tomatoes veered off the road and crashed into a ditch by the road side.
He said the driver, who was heading towards the east lost control while approaching Abaji, and hit one of the barricades used by the construction company working on the road.
“The driver who was on top speed did not know that there was a diversion and when he noticed it, he swerved to the next lane but hit a barricade causing the vehicle to somersault and crash into a ditch,” he said.
The witness said officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene and evacuated the injured to hospital.
When contacted, Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Moses Audu, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to over-speeding and loss of control, saying the three injured passengers were taken to Abaji General Hospital for attention.
In a related incident, two persons were also injured in another motor accident which occurred on Tuesday night near Kwali town, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
Yangoji unit commander of the FRSC, AustineChukwudiOkeke, while confirming the accident, said it happened around 8:46 pm when a Honda car with registration number AZ 313ABJ, had a tyre burst while in motion, adding that the injured were taken to Kwali General Hospital.
