2019: Lagos monarchs urge adequate security

Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, traditional rulers in Lagos State have called for adequate security in the state.

They specifically asked the security agencies to double the number of personnel to be deployed to the state for the elections.

They made their position known at an interactive session organized for them by the Independent National Electoral Commission, aimed at briefing them on preparations for the elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Sam Olumekun, said the  commission required the support of traditional rulers as custodians of traditional and moral values to mobilize the electorate and assist the INEC to conduct smooth elections.

The chairman of the Lagos Council of Traditional Rulers and Oba of Lagos, Riliwanu Akiolu, stressed the need for adequate security arrangements during the distribution of  electoral materials.

Akiolu, who was represented by the Onisiwo of Tomoro and and Abagboland, Eti-Osa  Oba Mohammed Adio, said the number of security agents must match the number of polling units and voting points.
