Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu is set to emerge as the presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, ahead of the 2019 election as his main challenger Engr. Donald Igwegbu has quit the race.
Igwegbu announced his decision to step down in a statement issued on Saturday. YPP presidential Primaries is scheduled for Saturday 8th September 2018 at the International conference Centre Abuja.
“Today, I made an uncommon decision to ‘Step Down’ for my senior brother, Professor Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu, as he officially becomes the Presidential Flag-Bearer of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) during our party’s National Convention scheduled to hold today being the 8th of September 2019 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria,” Igwegbu noted in his statement.
He added that “Professor Moghalu and I subscribe to the same vision of progressivism, patriotism and the dire need to put our Country First.
I have taken this uncommon route at this point in time not because I am not also qualified to serve our nation as President in 2019 but because of the urgent need for everyone to work together if we must confront our common challenges as a nation henceforth.
My vision for the New Nigeria of our shared dreams is beyond the 2019 elections. I believe in myself, I believe in you and I believe tomorrow is another day as we continue to put our faith in the almighty God”.
He said that he is deeply convinced that Professor Moghalu would make a very good president, adding that he has the right pedigree, experience, purpose, energy and vision to fix our country along with other progressive like minds going forward.
