The Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State have intensified their scathing campaigns against each other.

This is coming as the speaker and Governor Abubakar campaigned in Bauchi South including Dogara’s constituency of Dass/Tafawa Balewa/ Bogoro federal constituency.

Dogara had, while campaigning at Dulla community in Tafawa Balewa LGA, accused the governor of allegedly misappropriating over N400 billion local government funds in the last three years.

He also accused the governor of allegedly using “ghost workers” to justify the rise in the state monthly wage bill from a little over N2 billion to about N7 billion.

“He is a thief. I say it again in Dass, he is a thief. You know I am a lawyer, He knows what the law says. Nobody can call you a thief. I want him to take me to court because I called him a thief,” Dogara said.

However, in a swift reaction, the Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar El-Sadique, said the speaker had lost issues and ideas to use in seeking for reelection, hence his resolve to resort to unfounded allegations against Governor Abubakar.

“We are not surprised because the man had been out of touch with Bauchi politics since he became speaker. Dogara makes Governor Abubakar his main campaign issue because he suffers from pre-election fever. We advise him to focus on his constituents and leave Governor Abubakar out.

“The figure of N400 billion he quoted can simply be translated to over N9 billion since GMA assumed office. That only exposes Dogara as having lost ideas and issues over which to seek re-election,” the statement added.
