2019: Christian elders warns against arrest of Obasanjo, Danjuma

The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has warned that any plan to arrest a former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) or a former Head of States, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) would amount to arrest of all Christian leaders in the country.

The Chairman of the Forum, Solomon Adun Asemota (SAN), who briefed newsmen at the end of a meeting of the elders on Saturday in Abuja, also faulted the 2018 posthumous National honours award given to the late Moshood Abiola, late Gani Fawehinmi and the National Honors Award bestowed on Babagana Kingibe, describing it as an illegal and unconstitutional action.
“Gen. Obasanjo had complained on plan to frame and arrest him over his stance on the state of the nation. Gen. Danjuma was recently halted on his way out of the country because of his statement that Nigerians should defend themselves. Arrest of Danjuma, Obasanjo or Gowon for that matter would amount to arrest of all Christian leaders in the country,” Asemota said.
He said that the award was merely an excuse to grant honors to a group of Muslims and to placate the Yorubas in preparation for 2019 General Elections.
He said that it is disturbing that the true champion of June 12, Humphrey Nwosu who conducted the freest and fairest elections in the history of Nigeria was not considered worthy of inclusion in the 2018 National Honors wondering if Nwosu was not honoured because he is a Christian.
“We are disturbed because all those granted the National honors including Baba Gana Kingibe are all Muslims. Not only is the impression being created that Muslims in Nigeria are in the forefront of championing democracy in the country but the awards further confirm the religious insensitivity and discrimination of President Buhari in a multi-cultural and multi-religious society,” he said.
The group also opposed the proposed plan by the Federal Government to set up ranches in 10 states, saying it is a modern-day slavery that would not succeed.
