The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has emerged the APC candidate for the 2019 area council elections.
Candido polled 298 votes from the 367 accredited voters to beat two other aspirants, Hajiya Salamatu Jubril and Solomon Ngbako, to pick the ticket at the party’s primary held at the Old Parade Ground, Garki, on Wednesday.
The party’s local Returning Officer for the primary, Babagana Ajimi, while declaring the result, said Hajiya Salamatu Jubril polled 65 votes, while Solomon Ngbako got three votes.
Ajimi said the total of delegates was 378, while 367 delegates were accredited for the election out of which 366 voted.
He declared Candido winner and the party’s flag- bearer after he polled the highest number of votes.
Candido described his emergence as a victory for the party and said he would work with all stakeholders to ensure the party won during the 2019 area council elections.
Meanwhile, APGA has elected Mr. Tonye Isokariari as its Abuja AMAC chairmanship candidate for the 2019 elections.
The FCT Secretary of APGA, Mr. Stanley Agwarra, who announced the result said the candidate met all the requirements for the exercise and was elected unopposed.
Agwarra said the party would put its weight behind the candidate to ensure his victory.
Isokariari, in his acceptance speech, assured party members that the mandate given to him would not be wasted.
“I will run a government of the people, for the people and by the people, a government that would listen to the people and respond to their needs and suggestions; nobody, big or small, will be left out. Everybody will matter and all voices will also matter. To this effect, there will be regular town hall meetings where score cards and key performance indicators will be drawn. My tenure will be largely driven by the private sector and will focus on policies that will bring about the much needed development that AMAC deserves,” he said.
