A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt yesterday nullified the primaries conducted by both Rotimi Amaechi and Magnus Abe’s factions of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
The court restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any candidates of the party for the 2019 general elections in the state .
The court also nullified all nominations of the APC in the state for the forthcoming elections.
According to the court, the APC cannot participate in the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections in the state.
Delivering judgement in a suit filed by Senator Magnus Abe and others, Justice Kolawole Omotosho declared that the APC, for failing to respect the law, must bear the consequences of its disobedience of the law.
Justice Omotosho stated that the direct and indirect primaries of the APC in the state conducted by both factions were illegal, null and void.
Reacting to the judgement, the publicity secretary of the party in the state, Chris Finebone said the judgement would be appealed.
He said that there were other issues such as legal representation still pending in court.
