2,000 women, youth in Kogi to be engaged in rice farming

Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Rashida Bello said she would enrol 2,000 women and youth that would take part in rice outgrowers farming scheme at the Omi Dam Rice Farm project in Ejiba area of the state.

She stated this at Ejiba when she met with a set of women and youth who participated in an earlier programme launched by her office last year in collaboration with the Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Agric Integrated Service Africa Limited.

“I have received a lot of positive feed backs, and I am happy that our women and youths are gradually embracing farming and are benefiting immensely from the Rice Mill project established in Ejiba.

“My husband, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Adoza Yahaya Bello, saw the potential of the Omi Dam and the huge farming opportunities and job creation that can be derived from the Omi Dam farm land if fully developed.

“My Office did not hesitate to utilize the value chain the Rice Mill has brought to the people of Ejiba by empowering our women and youths to continuously grow paddy rice that will be processed at the mill.

“I believe with this intervention, Ejiba land will be a rice farming hub, and the women and youths of Ejiba will go to all other local governments in Kogi State to train our women and youths across the state on the best practice of rice farming”, she said.

She urged the women and youth in the area to seize the opportunity by enrolling in the rice farming programme to make themselves reliant and economically buoyant.
