2 drivers charged with attempted murder get bail

An Ikeja magistrates’ court in Lagos has granted bail to two commercial drivers who allegedly attempted to kill one Madam Gladys Omoh.

The accused persons, Osaro Okonobor, 44 and Lucky Oboh, 48, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.

Chief Magistrate A.A. Fashola, granted each of them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, after they had pleaded not guilty to the charges. Fasola said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate said the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the court.

He, however, ruled that they be remanded in Kirikiri prisons, pending when their bail conditions were met.

“The accused should remain in Kirikiri prisons, pending when they meet their bail conditions,” he said.

He adjourned the case until Nov.26 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the duo committed the offences with others now at large on July 17 about 11a.m. at Badin Motor Park, Ajah, Lagos.

Unah said the driver allegedly attempted to kill the complainant on the instructions of the complainant’s younger sister, Augusta Osaigbovo, residing in the United Kingdom.

He said the complainant was saved by a friend identified as Igbinedion, who came to her house to let the cat out of the bag. “Igbinedion informed the complainant about the plan of the accused to execute her. The information led to their arrest before they could carry out the illicit plan,” he said.(NAN)
