Two persons have burnt to death when a Sienna Space bus rammed into a trailer near Nestle water company at Abaji, on Abuja-Lokoja road yesterday.
Our reporter learnt that six other persons sustained various degrees of burns and were taken to hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abaji.
A witness said the accident happened at about 2:45pm when a Toyota Sienna with registration number JLL 333 XL rammed into a MAN Diesel trailer without registration.
He said the trailer was on motion when the back bucket suddenly pulled out and the Sienna bus coming from behind ran into it and burst into flames.
“The driver and one other person sitting in front were trapped after the car ran into the trailer and caught fire,” he said.
Our reporter who arrived some few minutes after the accident saw two burnt corpses trapped in the car, while fire service men were busy trying to put out the fire.
It was observed that men of the FRSC were also busy diverting vehicles coming from Lokoja axis to the other lane as a result of the accident.
The Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, who spoke with our reporter at the scene said the command was making effort to use an extricating machine to remove the corpses trapped in the car
He attributed the accident to speed limit violation, loss of control and tyre burst.
He said the six injured victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment and that the corpses would be taken to the mortuary after they are removed from the wreckage.
