The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Jigawa State has arrested two people over possession of cannabis and a double-barrelled pistol in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.
The state commander of the NDLEA, Commander Narcotic (CN), Mrs. Josephine Ruth Obi, made the disclosure yesterday while parading the suspects in Dutse.
She said the suspects, Ahmadu Ibrahim and Bayero Adamu, were arrested by her personnel while on routine patrol along Kano-Hadejia road.
She said the suspects, who were travelling with other passengers in a bus, were found to be in possession of a wrap of cannabis and a locally-made double barrel pistol after they were searched.
Obi further said that the double barrel pistol was loaded with a cartridge while the other was empty.
One of the suspects, Adamu, said he found the pistol on a cattle route while rearing his animals in Gora, Ajingi Local Government Area of Kano State, adding that he never knew being in possession of a pistol was a crime.
On charges that he may be using it for robbery, he said it was only in his possession but not with any purpose, adding that the charm and dagger also found on them were only for self-defence.
Ibrahim confessed that he was found in possession of a wrap of cannabis and tramadol drugs.
