Over 150 teams representing different communities in Bayelsa state have so far registered to participate in the third edition of Governor Seriake Dickson’s Restoration Cup tournament.
The Tournament’s Director, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, told sports writers in Yenagoa yesterday, that the organizing committee has decided to move the date for the draws ceremony from June 18 to June 27, due to huge interest the competition has attracted among communities in the state.
He said the Restoration Cup tournament is used by the state government to scout for talents among the youths of the state and groom them to make them professional football players.
He said that several communities, religious organisations and higher institutions across the state have already indicated interest to participate in the tournament.
“We have been inundated with a high request for participation in this year’s competition. More communities than we had last year have registered for the 2019 edition and we are still receiving requests from teams that want to participate.
“We are encouraged by the interest that the Restoration Cup has elicited among communities in the state. We believe it is the result of the hugely successful tournament we had last year. So, the interest has soared.
“We are compelled to extend the registration deadline in order to accommodate more teams and communities. Registration and submission of forms will now close on Saturday, June 22,” Alabrah said.
