1,135 people killed in Zamfara banditry in four years – NSCDC

About 1,135 people have lost their lives to armed banditry and other crimes between 2011 and 2015 in Zamfara state, the newly posted commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) in the State, Mr David Abi said yesterday.

He spoke during a courtesy call on the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Gusau.

Mr Abi said it was touching for such number of lives to be lost when the victims did not even know the offence they committed.

He said he would want to create a synergy between the working journalists and his command in the state so that the much desired improvement in the area of security would be achieved.

Mr Abi further explained that they would intensify patrol day and night to forestall any possible security breaches in the state adding that they were working round the clock to put their grounded operational vehicles to back to working.

“Even though the state government has engaged the armed bandits in to peace dialogue which saw to the renouncement of armed banditry and other forms of crimes by the armed bandits, this shouldn’t be taken for granted,” he said.
